Spinetingler

The Savage Kick is an annual fiction journal – or whenever they feel like it – of raw and in your face fiction. Some of it is in a Bukowski vein, some confessional and some crime fiction. It also features interviews and recommendation lists. This is a straight up old school zine. It’s stapled together and kind of sloppy in the best way possible. Each issue has a limited print run and when they hit it boom that’s it, no more. Issue #1 is gone but the other are still available and highly recommended.

Savage Kick is a part of the Murder Slim family. They published the Spinetingler Award cover nominee The Hunch by Seymour Shubin and also The Angel by Tommy Trantino which was featured in the article 30 Days in the Hole: The Real Prison Books. You need to check these books out.

Everyone:
We’re just released two new books: Mark SaFranko’s God Bless America and Savage Kick #5. Both are available exclusively on the murderslim.com website from June 1st, 2010. Ebay, Amazon and bookshop releases will follow over the next few weeks.

God Bless America is the third Max Zajack novel and the prequel to Hating Olivia. It follows Max from birth to his late teens, struggling to survive the mania of the Zajack family as well as his own obsessions. The novel is introduced by Mary Dearborn, author of The Happiest Man Alive: A Biography of Henry Miller. In it she says: “God Bless America will be called a Tropic of Capricorn for the twenty-first century, an homage to Celine and Bukowski, but SaFranko’s is a completely original voice, searing, honest, unafraid…. To me this is by far more interesting and well-done than Miller, hands down.”

Savage Kick #5 has taken around two years to produce. But, as a result, it’s three times the size of previous issues. Professionally printed on glossy paper, it racks in at 232 pages. It contains some cartoons and an exclusive interview with Ivan Brunetti (Schizo) along with exclusive interviews and stories from Joe R. Lansdale (Mucho Mojo) and Seymour Shubin (Anyone’s My Name). Other writers featured are: Mark SaFranko, Jim Hanley, Steve Hussy, Julie Kazimer, Robert McGowan, Kevin O’Kendley, Jeffrey Bacon and J.R. Helton.

The new MurderSlim.com will also be released soon. It adds a book/film/comic review section, as well as some other goodies. As ever, the focus will be on confessional/crime/outsider stuff… but we’ll now be updating the website every few days with new reviews and features.

To those who buy our stuff, thanks again. And we genuinely mean it. We wouldn’t be here without you.
Best wishes,
Murder Slim Press
