We have a soft spot for Sophie Littlefield here at Spinetingler. This year
alone, we nominated Littlefield for Best Novel in the New Voice category for her debut A Bad Day for Sorry and in the Best Short Story on the Web for her first place Watery Grave Invitational story, “At Least I Felt Something”. (Lindenmuth and I even got into a brief tiff over whether or not Sophie should have another of her short stories nominated along with “At Least I felt Something”.) But our admiration of Littlefield is justified. The California author’s Stella Hardesty novels (A Bad day for Sorry and most recently, A Bad day for Pretty) are both equally as charming as they are dark, which not only attracts the basement noir crazies, but mainstream raves from publications such as People magazine.
I was luck enough to sit down with Littlefield at the recent Poisoned Pen conference held at the Arizona Biltmore Resort in Phoenix to talk about A Bad Day for Pretty, her upcoming Young adult novel, Banished, and other upcoming projects.
