Spinetingler

The mystery & crime field is large and varied and we think that this diverse selection of books represent some of the best that it has to offer. Selections were tough and after some difficult decisions some very good books just barely missed the cut.

Spinetingler would like to congratulate all of the nominees.

The polls will open tomorrow at 6am EST. Go here to vote, polls are open until April 30th.

After the jump you will find the nominees for the 2011 Spinetingler Award Best Novel: Rising Star

Give and Take by Stona Fitch is a winner. I loved it.

  • p.s. gifford says:

have to think about this one…..

  • Please don’t think about me … and no offense to anyone anywhere involving this stuff, but … I’ve always thought these things particularly silly so it’s probably best to ignore my book. That is not a slight against Spinetingler or anyone involved in the process (or anybody else). It’s probably best to whack me from the list and just consider the others on it. Peace and … Go Bills!

  • Charlie:

I tried to send this to you directly, but I have an old email for you.

I let people at rara avis know about the Spinetingler thing, and I added:

And ignore Charlie Stella’s excessively self-effacing comment. He’s a great guy and a terrific writer and if you dug his book, let him know: Vote.

Kevin Burton Smith, also a writer, responded:

Ignore it? It makes me want to vote for him.

It’s a great strategy; and particularly refreshing after the deluge of “vote for me, vote for me” and “buy, buy, buy my 99 cent e-book masterpiece” messages that have flooded my mail box and Twitter account lately.

That Charlie. Some kinda fuckin’ genius. He’s like the Lemony Snicket of crime fiction. In these days where BSP flows through the crime fiction world like diarrhea, you just gotta love that disingenuousness.

    Here’s what he said…

    Just brilliant. Vote Charlie.

    The Thrilling Detective Web Site
13 Years of Trouble. And kissing the wrong asses

(Don’t ask me what BSP is — I have no clue.)

That absolutely made my day. Congrats my friend. You’re right, these things are silly, but in a world where it is all too easy to be ignored, it’s nice to know someone noticed. You deserve that notice. If only in the mirror, take a bow.

I hope all is grand in your world.
    David

  • David, David, David … vote for me and I’ll set you free!

I have not mentioned this on my blog … because I fear a flood of Stella votes will destroy the accounting process. This happened once already, when I was voted most probably to weigh 350 some day (high school). By college it was up to 400 …

I’m expecting a call from Ralph Nader any day now. If he hires me, we’ll finally have somebody in that dopey White House who will represent the American worker … Stella’s 2012 Nader/Socialist/Communist campaign is a guarantee winner!
