Broken River Books announces new title Peckerwood by Jedidiah Ayres

1010867_10151784487818428_1202767698_n Broken River Books has announced its second title, Peckerwood by Jedidiah Ayres.

I was fortunate enough to have read this already in manuscript form [and I secretly hoped that Snubnose Press would publish it :)] and enjoyed it so much that I named it in my Best Fiction of 2012 article published here. Here’s the mention from editor J David Osborne’s Facebook page:

The second release from the Broken River Books launch will be PECKERWOOD by Jedidiah Ayres. This is the story of backwoods Missouri trash, a meth dealer and a crooked cop and a lowlife penny ante douchebag. It is laugh-out-loud funny, dark, irreverent, but more than that, it expresses a deep empathy for the human side of these characters that is just totally missing from most contemporary noir fiction. I got choked up twice, and one of those times it was the late-hitting punchline to a much earlier, at-the-time hilarious set up. This is a book that I will fight you over.
