Review:
Bad Thoughts by Dave Zeltserman
Review by K. Robert Einarson
Billy Shannon has a dark past. When he was thirteen, he found this mother dying in their home. The event affected him so greatly that he had horrific nightmares near the anniversary of her death and unexplained blackouts that last for days during which he has no memory of the events that occur. Near the twentieth anniversary of her death, Billy, who is now a cop, begins to realize what may be occurring during these blackouts and his life starts to become unraveled.
The strongest part of BAD THOUGHTS is the strong development of the character of Billy Shannon. Zeltserman spends a great deal of time crafting a believable character who’s descent into doubt and guilt is powerful. The story has a strong even plot to carries the reader to the book’s exciting conclusion.
There are many elements of the classic noir tale here and Zeltserman shows he has a strong understanding of the subject matter and pays tribute to the greats of the genre.
This is an exciting book well worth the read and I look forward to Zelterman’s next book.
