Our Process
The only way to guarantee that a book will be considered for the Spinetingler Awards is to make sure we see it, in other words to send us a copy. Every book that we receive is automatically considered for a Spinetingler Award just by virtue of being put in front of us. It’s just that simple really. Otherwise you are just relying on word of mouth and our purchasing habits.
The Spinetingler Awards are selected by an award committee that consists of:
Brian Lindenmuth
Sandra Ruttan
Invited guests
At the end of the year we track the results from every top 10/best of list and article that we can find. These include but aren’t limited to newspapers, magazines, blogs, sites and Yahoo groups. So if you publicly posted your end of year thoughts then they were considered.
The nominees are then selected and narrowed down from this combination of our readings and others end of year lists.
The number of nominees in each of the award categories will be at least six. Spinetingler reserves the right to go and as high as ten in some cases.
We are fairly open in stating that one of the goals of the Spinetingler Awards is to increase exposure for some books and authors and this can be a factor in selection.
